Orphanage Visits VHB
Mount of OlivesMount of Olives Orphanage comes to Victory House for dinner.
Around sixteen orphaned children along with their leaders join us for an evening of puppets, song, food and fun.
It was an unusual evening at Victory House Baja in that this time the orphanage came to us. Last Wednesday, Cindy and I took the team out to Uruapan to have a visit with the kids and staff at the Mount of Olives orphanage. We have had a relationship with the staff and most of the kids living there before and since the first casa hogar opened. Before leaving we invited them to come to the mission base and have dinner with us, and they happily accepted.
I thought it must have been a bit of a chore to get all the kiddies ready and loaded into the white Dodge maxi-van (which could be confused with an ark it's so big) but I'm told that the kids were so excited about coming, it was a breeze. They showed up around 5pm and the kids were amazed, even mesmerized by the view. Most all of them went to the back wall overlooking the city and just took in the vista for a long time. There was, and is, always time for some play before mealtime and they loved jumping on and off of the big rocks in the yard.
The day we went to visit them, we also stopped by the "Viva Organica" farm and they blessed us with three boxes of large tomatoes, and two boxes of cherry romas. With a portion of these, Cindy, along with Brittany, Sydney, and Elishya, made a great tasting spaghetti sauce with meat. Add to that a salad and garlic bread and we had great meal together. The kids love Cindy's cooking and many of them had lasagna for the first time last December during our Christmas Feeding Program.
After dinner, the show began. The puppet show that is. All the practicing the team did to prepare the show was definitely worth the effort, and here was yet another opportunity to prove it. The kids loved it, and afterwards Lalo played some children's songs and we headed out to the backyard where Nathan had already started the camp fire.

The orphanage kids did a comedic skit called "The House is on Fire" and told us to pay close attention because we would have to perform the same skit after them. It was loads of fun and we had some some more songs too. Cindy and Nathan put the "Mexican Smores" around the fire and soon after the dessert was gone, so were the kiddies.
It is a blessing to have a friendship with this ministry and especially with the children.
