Mission Reflections #1
Abigail ValladaresSome thoughts and reflections on missions from a recent visitor to Victory House Baja
Abigail Valladares visited VHB with the team from Victory in the Park, Sherwood Park, Alberta in November 2009.
Have you ever been so full but had nothing left to say? Truly that was my experience of Victory Ensenada. It was nothing like I was expecting; it felt like home. I guess through my weeks of processing I have come to realize that the most lasting impression my trip served was to give me a hunger for the greater Body of Christ and for the manifest Kingdom of God. Mama and Papa of the Mission (Cindy and Richard) were wonderful, but in the same way I met them and fell into the joy of being One in Spirit, so as well Senora Dina and Senora Angela and Mamita. I fell in love with so many people and places, and all along only longing for more to give, more to have, more to be.
Now we prepared to go serve and help eleviate the pressure of poverty on some very needy people, but I honestly have a confession: I didnt see poverty, although it surrounded us at times. I saw the rich treasure of the Mexican People; a unique calling and purpose, the Beauty of a People. Mostly, I realized very quickly that I was not some Canadian Hero sweeping in to save the day; I was a sister coming to shower my love on the Mission and the people they had become a part of. I was one who, going to minister, was ministered to so thouroughly by the Holy Spirit. I guess I realized that Missions is not some kind of spiritual high only the strong participate in. Missions is a call all must be obedient to. You either go yourself, go to love on those that have gone or a little of both.
I have been so humbled with this Truth that my approach to God and how I think about my success or failure as a Christian has changed. The missions trip itself didn't do that, but it was my step of faith, my act of worship, my stretch of obedience that opened up new resolve in understanding. I no longer have to be perfect to enjoy the fruits of simple obedience.
If anyone reading this is waiting till you get that issue worked out, or have saved up X amount of dollars, or stop smoking or swearing, or BLANK, stop waiting. Chat with Jesus and as you step out, whether in obedience of a call to Missions on your life, or out of Love for the Brothers and Sisters you'll spend eternity with, that victory will come. After all, it is called Victory Missions Baja.
I am pleased as punch that the Grace of God extends to me no matter where I am when I say yes to Him.
In summation: Victory Missions Baja; GO!!
