Volunteer Ministries Update

Global Ministries Launch ImageYoung Missionaries

The team is experiencing and enjoying many different aspects of life in the mission field.

The outreaches continue and the team has grown with the addition of three more young volunteers from Canada who have joined the team!

The team has been involved with many different ministries over the past week. After picking up Elishya, Brittany, and Sydney at the San Diego Airport they all began practicing for the debut performance of VCI Mexico's puppet ministry started by Johnny after he received a puppet donated by Kim & Renae of Lethbridge Victory Church. They put in a lot of time and effort, and did a great job to the delight of many children at the "Lo Mejor del Trigo" church in Tijuana on Sunday. After the puppet show, Nathan shared with the kids a message on the burdens of sin and how Jesus can take that burden away.

The girls also sang a special song during the regular service in the afternoon. This was our second visit to this church in Tijuana. It is pastored by Jamie Rodriguez, the uncle of Ramon, who leads worship and has worked with us in Ensenada during outreaches.

Team Quotes

Elishya: "In my first week I have had to overcome challenges, like giving my testimony and singing in front of a church, but it has been a great experience!"

Sydney: "This first week has been great! I really enjoyed having church with our friends in Tijuana, and am really looking forward to the next three weeks."

Brittany "I've only been here for a week, but I'm amazed at how much I've grown. The people and experiences have been incredible and I can't wait to see what will happen in the next four and a half weeks."

On Saturday we all went for a four hour visit with the ladies at the rehab center. It's not always easy to get our regular two hours and God's favor was upon for this time of fellowship. The ladies were treated to a movie, "The Blind Side" and then some games, testimonies and a short message from Cindy. Everyone had a lot of fun, and one of the games that Cindy lined up for the ladies was called "Toilet Paper Bride". The object was for each team to adorn their chosen bride with a toilet paper dress and accessories. The ladies at the center were a bit shocked at such a waste of toilet paper, and not one piece was wasted or left on the floor after the game. They all stashed the toilet paper in their shirts and pockets, revealing the need for even the simple necessities in these facilities.

Last Thursday the team paid a visit to The Mount of Olives Children's Home in Uruapan. The kiddies were delighted to have us there and I think the trampoline was the big hit of the day for all. I even had to take a turn on it and was reminded that I'm not a spring chicken any more, by a failed back flip ending in a bit of a face plant. We invited them to come to Victory House for supper on Wednesday, and they will get treated to the puppet ministry as well.

Today, our guests for the lunchtime feeding program will be ordering off a menu with a choice of two soups. They will also get to see the puppets in action, doing a show for them before lunch. PTL! They're getting this special treatment at the base feeding program today, and then afterwards we will head over the bank, taking food door to door in the poorest section of our neighborhood

The team has been a blessing around the mission as well with cleaning, and helping out with maintenance on the property.

Nathan "It always seems that when you want something to last it always goes by so fast. In other words, my three weeks end on Thursday. Already?"

Nathan heads back to Canada this Thursday and his three weeks here have gone by really fast for us too. He has blessed us in many ways and we hope to see him again in October with the team from Victory in the Park, his home church.
